The fourth verbal commit of Wisconsin's 2014 recruiting class, Milwaukee Marquette Conor Sheehy can…
Conor Sheehy has U-M in the back of his head
Since then, there have been some changes in the Wisconsin football program. Most notably at the top, with the departure of coach Brett Bielema to Arkansas following the Badgers 70-31 win over Nebraska in the 2012 Big Ten Championship game.
At 6-foot-4, 275-pounds, Sheehy is rated a four-star prospect and is the top committed player in Wisconsin's 2014 class. But since the departure of Bielema, there had been rumors circulating that he might be looking elsewhere.
"I haven't really decided that," Sheehy explained. "I am going up to Wisconsin this weekend, I think. So that will be a little bit further with my decision with that. But as of right now, Wisconsin hasn't shown me anything different. So I am still committed."
While Sheehy is still committed to Wisconsin, he did note that he has stayed in contact with their Big Ten opponent Michigan.
"I have been in contact with (defensive coordinator Greg) Mattison quite a bit," Sheehy explained. "He actually stopped by my school and I have been talking to him on the phone and that kind of thing. He does want to get me on campus. He told me, obviously, I still have an offer and that kind of stuff. He thinks I really belong at Michigan."
With his continued relationship with Mattison, is a visit to Michigan possible for Sheehy?
"It's always in the back of my head," Sheehy said. "I'm not going to make any decision till after this weekend. I still owe it to the Wisconsin coaches to try to get to know them better and see what they are all about."
Sheehy camped at Michigan last summer, and said if he did come back for another visit he would want to have more time with the coaching staff.
"I think this time instead of going to see all the facilities and all that kind of stuff that I did last time," Sheehy explained. "I would want to sit down with the coaches more and know their schemes better and where they see me fitting in their defense."
Sheehy noted that Michigan's in-state rival Michigan State is also showing considerable interest in his recruitment.
"Michigan State was by the school a couple times after Coach Bielema left. I've been in contact with Vanderbilt, Washington, but I hadn't sent out my junior film at all actually. So, I haven't tried to reach out to schools and establish any contact," Sheehy said.
