With a slew of recent John Glenn high school Rockets playing division one college football, Da’Mario Jones was a late add to the 2013 class but one that could pay huge dividends in the long run.

His Recruiting Story

A history of producing great athletes with a knack for making plays, Westland John Glenn high school had yet another offensive weapon with division one talent in the class of 2013, wide receiver Da’Mario Jones. Making his way out to several football camps in the summer of 2012, Jones was routinely mentioned as one of the top performers in attendance and as intriguing a prospect as anyone. At 6’2, 185 pounds, possessing good speed, Jones went into his senior season with the Rockets nursing a large chip on his shoulder, though still committed to Central Michigan, as eyes remained glued on his development and the possibility of earning bigger offers.

After lighting up the competition and becoming an even more dynamic playmaker on Friday nights, Jones set himself up for some good news when the University of Michigan football program placed a call that ended with a scholarship offer to the local product.

"Actually, I was in my school library, and Coach Borges called and I picked up the phone and he said they gave me a full ride,” said Jones. “I talked it over with my parents and we felt it was the best thing for me to do. I'm officially de-committed from Central Michigan."

Growing up a big Michigan fan ever since Braylon Edwards three touchdown performance in the Wolverines triple overtime win against rival Michigan State, Jones didn’t take long to deliberate, jumping at the chance to be in Ann Arbor.

"Michigan is where it all started,” said Jones. “They influenced me into playing, so it wasn't hard to the make decision based off that. We visited several times and I liked the area, the city is close to home, and everything's right."

Set to arrive in Ann Arbor in June, along with two other freshmen receivers, Jones plans to get on the field the same way he has at the high school level.

"They said I can come in as freshman and be equal. No one will outwork me. I'm ready to compete and fight for a starting position."

“Very good athlete who uses his tools to go up and make acrobatic catches. Has good body control, leaping ability, and good hands. He has good ability after the catch and open field skills, which he has shown as a return man, running back, and a receiver. He just needs a little polish as a route runner, but he has a lot of the other tools you look for in a receiver.”
