Hendricks Had Big Junior Season

Fruitport (Mich.) two-way lineman Chris Hendricks is hoping his productive senior season leads to more recruiting attention, although he does have interest coming from several major schools already.

Fruitport High had a good season this year, making the playoffs and playing tough against several teams who are still alive in the tournament, Grand Rapids Christian and DeWitt.

A big reason for the success was lineman Chris Hendricks, a 6'5, 270-lb junior.

"I made 1st team All Conference, for offense and defense," he said. "You can't make 1st team for both in All-Area, so I got 1st team offense and 2nd team defensive in All-Area. My coaches nominated me for All-State, but I don't know if we got it yet."

The recruiting interest is just beginning to come, but a couple schools who saw Hendricks in action over the summer have kept in touch.

"I went to the Michigan State camp over the summer. The defensive line coach told me to keep in contact and to come to a game if I can. I talked to Western Michigan when I went to their camp. I talked to their head coach, D-Line coach, Defensive Coordinator, and I got a card from the area recruiter."

In addition to those schools, Hendricks says Michigan stopped by his school, and he receives a letter from Temple just about every week.

He plans on visiting Western Michigan within the next two weeks, and one of the things yet to determine with these schools, is where exactly Hendricks will play at the next level, although he does have a preference.

"I don't know. I've been going to camps for defense, just because I like it more, but when Michigan talked to my coach, it was more for offense."

The off-season will also be time for Hendricks to improve and work with his team on making sure they go farther in the playoffs in 2013.

"I think our line is going to be better next year, more size, a little more talent. The defensive line should be good. One of our starting defensive ends is coming back. We're going to have to replace the other end and tackle, but I'm rotating at end and tackle, whatever the formation is. We'll have a lot of good athletes that are going to be back."
