"A throw away can be a good play" (w/video)

Michigan senior quarterback Denard Robinson has been the center of scrutiny and praise throughout his career as a Wolverine. With really high highs and very low lows, if Michigan hopes to win the Big Ten, Robinson will need to find a middle ground. **With VIdeo**
When it’s all said and done Michigan senior quarterback
Denard Robinson
will leave Ann Arbor as one of the most polarizing offensive weapons ever to don the Maize and Blue.
Already the career yardage leader for the Wolverines with 9,438 total yards, Robinson is also the leader in career interceptions with 38 throughout his three seasons as the starting quarterback.
With four more “completions” to Notre Dame in a 13-6 loss that put Michigan back at .500 heading into Big Ten play, Robinson knows something has to change.
“I got to be accountable to the team,” said Robinson. “And that’s not throwing interceptions, playing my role on the football team and knowing that its ok to throw the ball away, knowing its ok to take a sack sometimes or knowing it’s a good play to punt sometimes.”
“It’s a good play if I have to run the ball,” said Robinson. “I’ve got to start making better decisions as a quarterback.”
In Robinson’s most productive games as Michigan’s quarterback, the solution has been a nice mix of both the pass and the run. Whether it be the 200-yard rushing, 200 yard passing game that put him on the national scene in 2010 at Notre Dame or the back-to-back wins in 2011 against Nebraska and Ohio State in which Robinson threw five touchdown passes, just one interception and amassed over 260 total yards on the ground.
With a past history that indicates Robinson can possess the ball, make passes when needed and keep Fitz Toussaint thoroughly involved in the attack, the Wolverines didn’t head into the bye week in full panic mode offensively.
“We took advantage of the bye week and we came in ready to work and play like Michigan the whole week,” said Robinson. “So we got to continue to do it until we get to Saturday and do it on the field.”
“Personally I wanted to keep going after that,” added Robinson. “When you lose you want to get back in the game.”
Robinson will have his chance at redemption starting this Saturday in West Lafayette and with seven other opportunities remaining in the Big Ten after the tilt with Purdue, number 16 could expand on an already impressive resume by leading Michigan to its first Big Ten championship since 2004.
