Thursday afternoon I contacted Boca Raton, FL (Saint Andrews School) OL and Michigan commitment
Grant DeBenedictis
. I wanted to get an update in things since his commitment.
Grant DeBenedictis
(2003 U-M Camper, 2002 U-M Camper, 6-6, 275 lbs. 3.75 GPA 31 ACT 1370 SAT) told me this today about message board reports saying a certain recruiting service didn't like him.
"Everything like that is always taken out of context. On a message board you can't tell the tone one is using. You guys are fine."
On to better, and more important things, I asked him about his recruitment, and what steered him towards the Maize and Blue.
"Michigan has the best combination of academics and athletics in the country, nobody is even close. I was born there, I have a lot of family there, and my dad went to Michigan on an academic scholarship, and graduated. It's the school I followed the most and know the most about. It was just a great fit for me."
Is he still being recruited by other schools?
"Yes, Notre Dame and Northwestern offered me scholarships recently. Notre Dame and Ohio State want me to take official visits to their schools. It doesn't matter, even if I took the visits I'm still stayin true to my commitment to Michigan."
What does he think of Michgian Head Coach Lloyd Carr?
"I had never met Coach Carr until Michigan started recruiting me. I've talked to (Ohio State) Coach Tressel, (Northwestern) Coach Walker, and (Notre Dame) Coach Willingham, and by far Coach Carr is the only coach I could play for. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the other coaches, but Coach Carr is the one I liked the most."
As a junior, offensively DeDenedictus recorded 42 pancake blocks with no sacks allowed, on defense he had 41 tackles and 4 sacks. He's been elected captain for his senior year.
