MEQUON, Wis. - Kevon Looney's performances at June camps vaulted his ranking into the Class of 2014…
Top Ten '14 hoops prospect on Michigan radar
His AAU coach, Shelby Parrish, thinks of a few players that he feels Looney plays like.
"He is a more skilled Stacy Augmon," Coach Parrish says. "I also look at him and think that he plays like Grant Hill -- he carries himself like Grant on and off the court."
With a plethora of schools coming after him, it is a Big Ten school that has been monitoring him since last season. The Michigan Wolverines have been keeping an eye on him since the summer of 2011. Last summer at the NY2LA basketball tournament in Mequon, Wisconsin head man John Beilein and assistant Lavell Jordan were courtside to look at the then sophomore to be.
And assistant Lavell Jordan has already been out to see Looney at his high school during an open gym this summer as well as on the AAU circuit. Things have been going so well Michigan is looking to turn the heat up even more on the top ten prospect. Looney also knows a few players on the Michigan basketball team.
"Michigan has been in contact with the family and they are looking to get him on campus for a visit," says Parrish. "The family is interested in Michigan and a visit might be in the works . Looney knows Glenn Robinson and Mitch McGary, two incoming freshman at Michigan."
Parrish feels that Looney still has work to be done on an ever-improving skill set.
"I feel he still needs to get a little stronger, along with shooting better with the catch and shoot. When he gets to the basket, he needs to work on finishing with contact at the basket."
With the Wolverines having four offers on the table from prospects in the class of 2014 they are not going to just play the waiting game. They are continuing to look for players that fit their system on and off the floor -- and Kevon Looney fits that bill.
