Evans Starts 2012 in a Big Way

Kenowa Hills (Mich.) class of 2014 DE Zach Evans had a huge first game for his team on Thursday night. He talked to Fox Sports NEXT afterwards about the colleges he's interested in and vice versa.

Kenowa Hills' Zach Evans says recruiting is just beginning. The junior defensive end was invited to a few camps and attended several, but other than that, has not generated a ton of interest just yet.

Yet is the operative word there, as Evans started the season on fire, collecting three sacks and forcing a fumble in his team's 16-12 win over Traverse City West on Thursday. This was his first game at defensive end, and he's adjusting quickly.

"That's new," he explained. "I played strongside linebacker last year, now I'm at defensive end. It helps me a lot personally. I'm playing a lot more in attack mode being down on the line, and I like it a lot more."

Opponents may not like it as much if Thursday's performance was any indication, but colleges will like what they see from the 6'3, and now 235-lber.

Central Michigan, Michigan State and Michigan were the three camps Evans went to and each helped him prepare for the season in a different way.

Michigan: "I had to leave a couple days early, but I thought it went well. I liked it. All the coaches were really nice. They helped me a lot with the way I get to the ball and everything. It helped a ton."

Michigan State: "I went there for linebacker, because I wasn't sure where I was going to be playing this year, but it still helped me in general with tackling and knowing how to see the field. I liked that camp a lot."

Central Michigan: "Central's I was more in a group. There was less one on one attention, but I still liked the camp. It was a nice camp. They helped me with pass rushing a lot. It was more of a pass rush camp for me there."

Evans says he hopes to continue to hear from those schools and some other local ones as the process moves along.

"Well some bigger schools I'd be interested in are Michigan State, Michigan, maybe Central, but more locally, I'd like to hear from Grand Valley and I know Northwood invited me to a camp too."
