Willie Glasper Names His Top Schools

Yesterday I attended a passing league tournament at the local JC and ran into Concord, Calif. standout DB Willie Glasper and we briefly chatted. Today I contacted him for a more in-depth interview. I wanted to find out more about where his college interests lie.

Willie Glasper (5-11 1/2, 180 lbs., 4.34 in the 40; one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top seven running backs, 2.3 GPA, 900 on the SAT) had 3 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and 8 tackles in yesterday's passing league tournament held at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif. Glasper's team, the De La Salle Spartans, won the tournament, which isn't surprising since they haven't lost a game in 12 years. Glasper is a part of one of the most talented De La Salle teams in years, sporting no less than 5 Division 1A prospects, including U-M prospect Cameron Colvin.

Glasper, who had 8 interceptions and 53 tackles last year, currently reports offers from Utah, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, and Washington. His favorites though, include schools not on that list, "Oregon, Michigan, Florida State, and Arizona State, I don't really have any other favorites," he told me. He went on, "Most schools are recuiting me as a defensive back, or cornerback, that's where I want to play in collge."

He says this about his experience with the recruiting process, "The month of May was totally hectic. I get annoyed at times, but it's ok now, I like it."

Glasper told me yesterday he had talked to Michigan coach Ron English recently. I asked him to expand on their conversation, "He told me they think I could fit in with their system. He also told me they were going to take 3 cornerbacks and one safety in this class and that he wanted to see film of me after my first game or two, then they'll decide if they want to offer. I'd love to go to Michigan but I'm going to take all my visits first before I decide. I don't mind leaving California, I mean getting away from home is a lot of what college is all about, but I want to make sure everything is right before I decide."

Asked if he talked to any recent De La Salle players, he said, "I talked to Matt (Gutierrez) a couple weeks ago when he was back home. We didn't talk much about colleges and stuff. I talked to Maurice Drew a while ago and he said he liked it ok at UCLA, and that the workouts were real tough." Is UCLA on his list? "No, I don't want to go there."

Glapser is concentrating on getting ready for the season, and as is the case with the De La Salle team, doesn't focus on their current winning streak, "We just take games one at a time. Our job is to win the next game on our schedule. It's always better to win, but the streak doesn't really matter."
