Brady Hoke met with members of the media Monday to discuss to recap the opening of fall camp. The Wolverines' second year headman discussed Michael Schofield's move to tackle, Brennen Beyer's development, Will Campbell's maturation, Thomas Rawls, Jake Ryan, and much much more. (with video)
Brady Hoke's presser notes (paraphrased)
They're going to put stress on the players so Saturdays are easy.
He thought they had a pretty good day.
It can be deceiving without pads but they did a nice job.
Seniors and experienced guys have taken an accountability which is exciting.
Fitz & Clark- did not participate, no decision on future.
Schofield is very serious about his move to tackle, ready for it.
Beyer is competitive and loves to play. Mario Ojemudia is someone who could play Rush or they could move Jake Ryan down or even Cam Gordon.
Jake Ryan became more focused and intense so his technique improved. Natural instincts are key.
The defense has the same playbook and same scheme.
They lined up right today, few penalties, lack of turnovers and had some aggression competing.
Campbell- would be huge to get a major contribution. He led by example in off season, he will get after someone. If he (Hoke) has to lead they won't be any good. Hoke would be surprised if Will didn't have a better year cause of his work ethic and toughness.
Ricardo is playing both WR and TE
Devin DID take snaps at WR today
Barnum- His work ethic and leadership help. Ricky has great quickness and good leverage. Good with snaps today.
Denard- His maturity has been good, did a nice job of getting offense where they need to be and talking with receivers. Hoke lies how he runs the huddle.
A lot of installation right now. Veterans are more clued in than others. They're tweaking some things.
Jerald Robinson did practice, his punishment is over.
They evaluate everyday. Coaches are watching tape right now and they'll talk about all of it. They'll be walkthroughs in the morning.
Hopkins- He has a good understanding of things and has accepted role in positive way. Has grown a lot. He's become a teammate.
Everyone showed up for camp.
Poole is only injury.
Demens- He has done a good job. Getting ready to play last year, you tell them it doesn't last forever, and as a senior there's always a difference in approach in a good way.
Guys were able to go home for a few days and came back ready to go.
Brady doesn't think Kovacs has changed. Always had a passion and love for football and Michigan. Feels comfortable and confident talking when he needs to.
Hoke hopes they're a tough and physical football team. Want to play fast And confident.
Freshmen- Most are finishing classes, running in and out, none impressed necessarily.
Denard's speech at the Kickoff- Did amazing job, told a story and did it how he would do it.
Captains- They won't pick them for a couple more weeks. Saturday or Sunday before of game week.
Rawls- Rawls runs angry, runs hard and has balance. Between Hayes and Thomas they all got carries.
Black- He's not as big as his brother but has worked hard to put the weight on. How he's able to keep it during camp is important.
Punting- Heck of a battle there between Wile and Hagerup
