Laquon Treadwell out of Crete, Ill., is rated the No. five receiver in the country by Scout.com. He visited his first SEC school, Ole Miss, over the past two days.
"It was better than I was expecting,"
Treadwell
said. "I didn't know what to really expect, to be honest. I'd never been to a SEC school before, but I loved it. I can see why
Anthony Standifer
signed with them now."
That relationship with his former teammate started his interest in Ole Miss.
"As soon as Anthony signed with Ole Miss, and I found out they were running a spread, I started doing my research on Ole Miss. I've built a great relationship with coach (Grant) Heard and coach (Hugh) Freeze. They wanted me to come down and check it out so I did."
What did he find out about the Rebels?
"I didn't know too much about them before I visited other than what Anthony had been telling me. He's been straight forward with me about Ole Miss. He said their new coaches were cool and that they run a wide open spread offense. That really caught my attention. He just said that I could really fit in there, and I saw it for myself that I could. I really like their offense and coaches."
What stood out the most?
"I guess you could say their offense and the people they have there. Their coaches are just so down to earth and really help their players. I watched how they interacted with their players at practice. They have a really good environment around there, from the coaches, players and just the campus and town in general. It's a really fun place."
What type of offense is Ole Miss going to run and how would he fit in?
"They run an up-tempo spread offense. Every run play is designed as a passing play. The receivers don't always have to block. They get the ball in your hands. We watched a lot of film from their spring game and practices, and I saw a lot of opportunities to go and make some big plays. They catch a lot of hitches, screens, and bubble screens, and get you out in open spaces. When the defense sneaks in they go over the top. It's just an offense that's very receiver friendly. That's the best way I can put it."
Where will Treadwell visit next?
"I'm coming back to Ole Miss for the Texas game. That's all I know for sure. I want to get over to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Auburn before too long. I just have to check my calender now that practice is starting. I'll probably just wait until the season starts and go see them play."
Treadwell was thinking about giving an early commitment to Michigan at
The Opening
but those plans have been put on hold.
"They're still at the top of my list, but I've pretty much decided not to commit anywhere this summer. I want to take my official visits first and go from there."
What makes Michigan so attractive?
"I'm just comfortable with the whole place. I've been there like six or seven times. I'm comfortable there now, and that's why they're at the top of my list."
Followed by?
"Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Michigan State."
