Middletown (OH) 2014 forward Vince Edwards has been one of the top performers for the King James Shooting Stars 16-and-under team this summer, and the Michigan coaching staff has made it on point to frequently be on hand to witness his progress.
“They have been showing pretty high interest,” Edwards told GoBlueWolverine.com. “I mean we talk every other day. You know call, I talked to the whole staff one day. So I have been talking to the whole staff. We got a good connection. ”
The 6-6, 185-pounder has yet to schedule a visit up to Ann Arbor, but hopes to make his way to Michigan’s campus in the fall. At the point he will be able to assess how the Wolverines live up to his criteria.
“I am going to see what type of facility it is, the atmosphere always,” Edwards said regarding a possible Michigan visit. “ A place where I can feel like they have a great staff, a great school. You know, I want to be coachable for any coach that wants me. I really like great coaches. I like a great education.”
Rated a four-star prospect and No. 20 small forward according to the latest scout.com rankings, Edwards showcases an all-around game and exhibits the shooting, rebounding and passing ability necessary to play in Michigan coach John Beilien’s offense.
“Coach Beilein he likes shooters and he likes guys that can drive and get the shooter open,” said Edwards. “I can see myself in that… somewhere in that offense.”
That vision would become a lot clearer if the Wolverines extend a scholarship offer. It’s a moment that Edwards is anxiousy anticipating.
“It would be big,” a smiling Edwards admitted. “It would be pretty big. I wouldn’t be able to explain it. It would be pretty big.”
Edwards currently has offers from Xavier, Purdue, and Dayton and believes an offer from West Virginia is on the horizon. He also noted that Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Iowa State are showing high interest for his services. For now the Buckeye State standout is content with watching the interest in his game grow so he call have a broad array of options to choose from.
“I want go out and see all the campuses first. Give everything a chance and see where I am most comfortable at. That’s why I don’t want to commit to early. I just want to make sure it is the right choice. I made the best choice I could.”
