Hoke on MSU Losses: "We've Got to Do Our Job"

Michigan Head Coach Brady Hoke joined Sam Webb Friday evening for the Mott Takeover on Sports talk 1050 WTKA. Hoke discussed numerous topics including alternate jersey's, the Ohio State offense under Urban Meyer, Mark Dantonio's "where's the threat" comment, and more. ***with Video***

On the effect visit’s to Mott Children’s Hospital has on Michigan players:

Brady Hoke: “Well I think Sam, it’s really an experience like no other,” said Hoke. “We’re fortunate and our guys are fortunate to be able to go out there and do what they can do, go out there and run, catch, tackle, all of the thing’s they can do athletically and then they get in a position where they can really go learn life lessons and be with those great kids and hopefully inspire them. And at the same time those kids are inspiring them way, much more.”

On the players' reaction to the legacy jerseys last year:

Brady Hoke: “Well I think the throw backs that the kids wore against Notre Dame, they were excited. They thought they were great, they were excited about it. I think the fan base in a lot of ways was excited but, you know, a little bit off of what Dave said, you know, football has changed, how kids perceive, how they look at thing’s. Michigan is still always going to be Michigan and we’re going to be as traditional as anybody but I think once in a while there’s an opportunity to maybe do something different and I think our kids embrace that.”

On policing social media:

Brady Hoke: “Well, you know, it’s definitely an issue.  Twitter came on so quickly that, that side of social media there’s been some guys that make bad decisions and not think about what they put out there and where that can go. We try and educate, we talk about social media and the positives it can have but at the same time there’s some thing’s that it can negatively effect you individually, or your team or your teammates. You need to be responsible, we try and check as often as we can or someone will let us know, believe me, that somebody said something but just trying to be responsible about it.”

On whether OSU’s offense under Urban Meyer provide something the Big Ten has never seen before?

Brady Hoke: “I don’t think so.  I think for the most part the spread and different people run it different ways and different combinations of plays that you’ll run with it but I don’t think there’s anything that’s breaking new ground right now that.  It really comes down to how much do you want to run the quarterback and how much do you want to open it up and stretch the seams and some zones in the run and the pass game and how much do you want to have a guy in the backfield, besides the quarterback, run the football.”

On Mark Dantonio’s comments about Michigan not being “a threat” after four straight losses to MSU:

Brady Hoke: “They’ve beaten Michigan the last four years and we need to do something about it.  That’s what it’s all about. I mean we’ve got to do our job.  We haven’t done our job.  We play a pretty significant football game September 1st and to be honest with you we try to take it one week at a time, one game at a time and…we’ve got better thing’s to worry about here at Michigan than to talk about what other people may think or say.”
