Nicknamed “the freak,” Gedeon uses his physicality to play both ways on the football field and in his team’s playoff defeat at the hands of Nordonia last night, he demonstrated a similar style on the basketball court.
Said Gedeon afterward, “I just like doing my best for my teammates and obviously what I can do for Randall and Zack, our two guards…just getting the rebounds and kind of playing off of them. They do a great job of complimenting me and getting me the ball down low.”
Gedeon poured in 15 points, primarily in the paint, in Hudson’s 69-65 loss. His strength made him a load to contend with in the paint. GoBlueWolverine had previously made it down to Hudson last fall to check out Gedeon on the football field. The physical growth the talented youngster has experience since then is a definite sign of his frequent visits the weight room.
“We’ve got a bunch of football guys on the basketball team so we like to hit the weight room pretty hard after practice,” Gedeon explained. “Coach gets us in there early in the morning, so it’s a good work ethic getting in there.”
Gedeon and his parents make their way to Ann Arbor today, Sunday for an in-depth visit with the Michigan coaching staff. The young man admits he’s excited to get his first glimpse of what Michigan has to offer in the class room.
“Coach has got me set up with a lot of the academic advisors and with the business school since I’m going into business,” he said. “We’re going to kind of check out everything I haven’t been able to see when I went up for camps and games.”
With Michigan having already reeled in 13 commitments for the class of 2013, spots are limited… a reality that could affect Gedeon’s timeline?
“I think right now (the number of scholarships Michigan allocates for linebackers) is going to be two or three depending on how it goes here,” he stated. “I know there are a number of linebackers that have Michigan as their number one choice right now. It’s definitely going to play a part because you know if the spots are filling up quick and I feel like this is the place I want to be, I’m going to have to make that decision earlier if the spots are filling up quickly.”
With Michigan currently in strong position with a few other linebackers in the 2013 class, could Gedeon show his hand Sunday afternoon?
“Probably not, just cause we’ve already got a couple visit’s scheduled after that, but I know if it goes well it’s definitely going to be in the back of my mind."
