Highland (UT) high coach Brody Benson chats with GoBlueWolverine about Michigan commitment Sione…
Signing Day Capsule: Sione Houma
Highland HS (Salt Lake City, UT)
NR: *** - Position Rank: 6
His Recruiting Story
Coach Borges has repeatedly discussed Michigan's eventual return to a pro-style offense. Houma is part of that return as the first fullback recruit at Michigan in several years. Sione is a versatile player that saw his stock rise after a junior season in which he had a 1,064 yard season, including seven touchdowns. His ability to run, block, and catch out of the backfield caught the attention and offers of schools like Washington, Utah State, and Utah. Houma was injured for part of his senior year but, finished with 890 yards rushing, nine touchdowns and a selection as a 1st team All-State running back.
His Commitment Comments
"The visit was great," he said afterward. "The stadium was great. The academics were pretty great and I was into it. (The coaches) are all great people. They all kept up with me and they seem like if I needed something, they could help me."
Houma has an excellent fullback frame, and will continue to add some needed pounds at the next level. His play has a tendency to surprise some defenders as not only can the kid grind out some gutsy yards and run trough tackles, he also has nice soft hands out of the backfield. He is also not afraid of contact and will lower his pad level and take on and defeat defensemen with his blocking skills. He keeps his feet moving after when running and we will not be surprised to see more fullback draws with him in the fold.
