His Recruiting Story
Anyone who follows Michigan recruiting should know the name Kyle Kalis and the blood feud that surrounds his recruitment. The events surrounding the Ohio State “tattoo-gate” and the ultimate dismissal of Jim Tressel would allow the Wolverines to do the unthinkable, take an Ohio commitment from his Buckeye pledge. However, prior to either of his commitments Kyle had already made his stake as a five-star player when at the OSU camp he took all-comers on and with very few exceptions easily stoned them; a talent he took to the playing field leading St. Edwards to and Ohio high-school state tile and a perfect 14-0 season. Kalis’ offer list essentially includes every BCS level powerhouse some of which include Auburn, LSU, Florida, Notre Dame, and did we mention Ohio State. Kyle had another excellent season as a senior making it to the second round of the playoffs, and earning him an All-State special mention and selection to the Army All-American Bowl.

Kyle brings a lunch-pail attitude to his play, and plays with a ferocity that is only quenched when he has an opponent flat on their back. He plays with the same effort and intensity whether pass or run blocking, and with his upper body strength, punch, and quick hands normally gets the better of his man. He has excellent size; his only detractor will be arm length which may cause him to be an interior guy or right outside tackle. “Kalis is a tough, strong lineman who dominates consistently. He plays the game hard and is an excellent run blocker and drive blocker. He plays with good leverage and finishes his blocks strong. He shows the ability to pull and lead, and is coordinated and athletic in the open field. He has good feet all around, which is also evident in pass pro. If there's a knock, it's that he may not be long enough for left tackle” – AllenTrieu.
