His Recruiting Story
Jarrod is not only a dynamic football player, but also a terrific student. Wilson began his recruiting campaign at the Raw Talent Combine where he placed 3rd in the overall rankings, and he followed that with an outstanding performance at the Mid-west showcase in which, even though playing out of position at corner, he outmatched his competition in 1-on-1drills. When you join that with a junior outing in which he had 60 tackles, and nine picks (five were returned for touchdowns) and colleges are going to take notice. Prior to his Wolverine pledge had the attention and offers from schools such as
Michigan State
,
Notre Dame
,
Tennessee
,
UCLA
,
Penn State
, and several others. He followed his excellent performance with senior season tallying 3 more picks for TDs, over 50 tackles and a 1st team All-State selection and membership on the Offense-Defense Bowl West team where he won MVP.
His Commitment Comments
“What made Michigan stand out (is) when I got there, right away I had that gut feeling. Then, as I started to walk around the campus I just fell in love with it. It was just the family atmosphere down there. It felt like home to me, to be truthful."
GoBlueWolverine Commentary
To call him a threat is an understatement; he can handle man-to-man coverage, and come up and stick the runner. Wilson has goo hips well and the speed necessary to stay with most receivers. He is still destined for safety in college, but his coverage skills are more than adequate. He takes good angles during pursuit, and will fight for the ball in the air, and when he gets his hands on a pick he can make an opponent pay. “Wilson is a rangy safety with a knack for making big plays. He has good closing speed, ball skills and anticipation. He's not as good side to side as he is in a straight line. He's a bigger kid with the potential to be a good tackler, but must get stronger” - Allen Trieu.
