Chandler Park Academy (MI) junior point guard and Michigan commit Derrick Walton participated in a seven-team scrimmage at Macomb Dakota high school this past weekend. The 6’0, 175-pound four-star prospect used the exhibition as a chance to polish up his skills for the upcoming season. Walton was able to get to the rim at will throughout the event, resulting in a number of high percentage baskets or creating opportunities for others. That, however, is a skill the future floor general has always had. He has used his time in the preseason to improve on another aspect of being a point guard.
“Just being a vocal leader… you know picking and pointing guys into the right spots,” he said. “Being an encourager and leading my team to wins,” he said.
The talented youngster is well on his way in that regard, as you will see in this video interview. Stay tuned to GoBlueWolverine for a full highlight package from Saturday’s scrimmage action in the hours to come.
