“It was a tough decision,” said Bielfeldt. “In the end I decided that I want to attend the University of Michigan.”

It was choice made tougher by Bielfeldt's deep family ties to Illinois, but the newest Wolverine indicated a few weeks ago that that wouldn't play as much of a factor as many may have suspected

“I’ve always said that if I was making this decision five years ago back when I was a huge Illini fan, I would have just gone with Illinois right away,” Biefeldt told GoBlueWolverine.  “I know a lot about (Illinois).  I have a lot of history with them.  It was kind of a childhood dream (to go there).  Now that I’ve kind of matured a little bit, I kind of respect the whole Big Ten.  There is just so much that all the schools have to offer.  Who I’m a fan of and who I liked growing up doesn’t play that big of a part with me.”

Bielfeldt shot up the charts for both Illinois and Michigan thanks to a strong senior campaign in which he averaged 22.4 points and powered his team to a 28-1 record.  He standout play caught the attention of’s Brian Snow at the State Farm Tournament of Champions early in the season.

“Some have questioned Biefeldt’s to produce, but he scored 30 plus in all three games played at the tournament, and was simply deadly on the offensive end,” wrote Snow.  “He is crafty down and showed a great ability to pick and pop. His performance was quite impressive each time out, and Biefeldt is a very high basketball IQ type of player.”

Bielfeldt believes he can be an low-post asset as soon as he steps on the collegiate floor. At the same time, he cautions against pigeon-holing him as a player that can only do damage in the paint.

“I’m 6-8, 230 and right now, I’m mostly a back to the basket kind of guy,” he said.  “I can kind of drive from the free throw line a little bit or kind of step out and hit the three when that is needed too. “
