2012 basketball prospect Nik Stauskas is enjoying his time at his new school St. Marks Prep School in Massachusetts. The Canadian native talks to GBW about his progression as a player since coming to St. Marks, and where his recruitment stands with the Wolverines.
“I have really improved my game since coming to St. Marks,"
Nik Stauskas
told

. "Coach Lubick has really pushed me to become a better player."
Stauskas understood that he need to work on his game more to become a more complete player -- by having more than just a jump shot and handles. So through hard work and some prodding from his coach he his very happy with the direction his game is taking.
“I am now a better defender because of the work I have put in -- going to the gym at 6:30 in the morning to improve my game has really helped. I also have worked on my dribbling, my jump shot and getting to the basket. I feel very comfortable with the way I am playing. Now I don’t care who is in front of me -- I feel like I can score on them. Coach Lubick just wants me to have an even balance of running the team and taking certain shots."
Although he has played point guard from time to time, the 6-5, 200 pounder feels his game will translate to different positions in college.
“I play the point sometimes and try and get others involved, but I also play the power forward spot. In college I see myself playing the shooting guard and small forward positions -- I feel very comfortable at shooting guard."
Nik has received attention from many schools but he has chosen to narrow his list of schools to four.
“Michigan, Iowa State, Kansas and Wake Forest are the schools that I am looking at."
It first appeared that things had slowed down in his recruitment with Michigan, but that is not the case. Stauskas knows just what he likes about the Wolverines, and that has not changed since the beginning of his recruitment.
“I just talked to Coach Beilein a couple weeks ago; I have also spoken with all the assistants as well -- they send me messages of Go Blue. Coach Beilein talks to my dad and reminds us of why they want me to play at Michigan. I like the relationship we have and I like what he stands for and believes regarding basketball."
Nik would like to visit Kansas, Wake Forest and Iowa State soon.
“I would like to get on the campus of those schools and look around and see what they offer, I already know about Michigan since I have been there to visit."
