His Recruiting Story
Hayes did not take long to get noticed on the national radar. As a junior Hayes rushed for 1,122 yards and five touchdowns, plus added 22 receptions. With 4.4 speed and moves to match he earned early interest from a number of schools. Michigan State, Louisville, Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern and many others all offered Hayes before he initially committed to the Irish. In the end, though, Hayes wasn’t thrilled with his official visit to see Notre Dame, and, although he grew up a Spartan, Hayes changed his commitment to then U-M coach Rich Rodriguez. Since the swap Hayes has been one of the Wolverines most active recruiters down the home stretch.

Hayes did not play as a senior following an injury late in his junior campaign. Hayes severely dislocated his right wrist as he pulled down a pass, and had to have screws installed which have him focusing on rehabilitation and getting ready to play at the next level.

His Commitment Comments
"First of all, my relationship with Coach Jackson and the coaching staff was stronger than any other college out there. Two, I would say is the location. I wanted to stay as close to home as possible and it's only 45 minutes away from home. Another thing was just the history of Michigan. I really want to be a part of this program and build it up."

GoBlueWolverine Commentary
Runs bigger than his listed size. Makes people miss with subtle moves rather than exaggerated lateral movement. Very good runner in traffic helps him eat up chunks of yardage quickly despite not having blazing top end speed. Very little wasted motion in his running style. Vision in traffic makes him valuable between the tackles despite his size. . He has fantastic receiving skills and that will allow him to play in the slot, which will also utilize his open field elusiveness. I don't think he's necessarily a track star who blows by people, but he has deceptive speed and very good feet. He changes directions well and makes defenders miss with ease.
