His Recruiting Story
Michigan
’s new offensive line coach Darrell Funk has said he wants linemen who play with physicality and a nasty disposition. That is exactly what he’s getting in Toledo St. John’s Jesuit lineman Jack Miller. Being close to MAC schools Toledo and
Ball State
, they were the first to offer, however Miller picked up 16 more offers from the likes of
Illinois
,
Michigan State
,
North Carolina
,
West Virginia
, and was strongly considering
Boston College
before picking the Wolverines. Miller visited for one of Michigan’s junior days and also camped at the Michigan Showcase.
He played on both sides his senior campaign and tallied 65 tackles, including 14.5 sacks defensively. On offense he finished his senior season with 51 pancake blocks.
His Commitment Comments
“Michigan is a program that I wanted from day one,” Miller told GoBlueWolverine. “When you think about programs you can see yourself playing for, Michigan was always one of those. When I got the offer I was really jacked up. Basically I really just wanted to not act on emotion and evaluate everything and make sure it was the right place, to do a little more homework on it and make sure. After doing it, it was time do it, so I did.”
GoBlueWolverine Commentary
Miller has potential on both sides of the ball, but no doubt will be brought in to bolster depth at the center position. He has the frame to pack on additional 40 or so pounds and bolster an interior position. Miller plays a style through the whistle. He sometimes fails to maintain pad-level, but he makes up for it with his hands and is ferocious in blocking run schemes. He moves very well for his size. He punches his hands out well, and, even though he won’t pull as a center, if put at a guard position he has the foot speed needed to move. He does an excellent job of getting into the secondary and making blocks for big plays.
