Michigan Courting Hot Texas D-End

U-M Running backs coach Fred Jackson went down Tuesday morning to take a look at Brandon Alexander out of Brenham, Texas. Did "Coach J" like what he had a chance to see on film?

Six-foot-six, 230 pound defensive end Brandon Alexander has quickly become one of the most heavily recruited players in the country, and he has caught the eye of the Michigan staff. So Michigan's Fred Jackson made the trek down to Brenham high school in East Texas and had a chance to see some film on the young man.

"Coach Jackson seen film on my son Tuesday morning," said Brandon's father, Mr. Barham," and he called Coach Hoke about it. And my son received an offer from Michigan."

Michigan is a little late to the party on Brandon, but he has just 'blown up'.

Alexander has been under the radar because he moved to Brenham (in eastern TX) from this season from a tiny western Louisiana town that dropped football.

He's a slender 6-6, 230 but after his impressive senior season he's become a hot prospect.

He made an official visit to nearby TXAM in December, and he visited TCU last weekend - and this was considered a 2-team recruiting battle. But Texas just offered (rare for the Horns to offer a kid this late) and is getting a visit this weekend.

Although the Wolverines have work to do, Alexander's family is impressed with what they are putting together up in Ann Arbor.

"I have watched Coach Hoke's career path, and I have a real admiration for what he has done as a coach," Mr. Barham said. "I think the hire of defensive coordinator Greg Mattison is a huge hire for Michigan -- that was really big."

At this time Brandon will take his time and let the dust settle.

"My son will be making a decision right around signing day. He's just trying to weigh his options and find the best fit. Going to college and getting a degree is very important for his future."

Will U-M get his last visit next weekend? The Wolverines have a lot of ground to make up but at least they're in the game. Stay tuned ... Miami may offer as well and he's always loved the 'Canes ...
