Tamani Carter Goes Blue!
Tamani Carter is a name many in the Maize and Blue recruiting circle didn't know. Now, they are scrambling to become more familiar with the newest Wolverine. "I'm 5'11", 175 and my forty time is a 4.48," Carter reported to GoBlueWolverine. "I'm just an explosive defensive back and I make the plays I have to make and I'm always looking for the ball." Carter, who had pledged to play his college ball at Minnesota, had been lightly courted by the former Michigan staff before they were let go. The hire of Brady Hoke and his new staff changed Carter's prioity level on the Maize & Blue target board completely. "Michigan was actually recruiting me in the past with the old coaching staff, but they never had offered," said Carter. "It's just something I didn't have before I committed to Minnesota. But with them coming in, they offered on Sunday night I'm pretty sure. Then I made the commitment yesterday morning. It's just an opportunity I didn't have in the past. If I would have had it in the past I would have committed." Michigan had some built in advantages for Carter, which made the decision to flip commitments much easier. "Just the tradition of football and also it's a lot closer to home," he explained. "I was kind of having problems with Minnesota being so far. And both teams kind of have a similar situation with a need for defensive backs." Carter called up the new head man and the point man in his recruitment Wednesday morning to tell them the news, and they were equally excited. "I talked to Coach Hoke and Coach (Mark) Smith. Coach Smith is the coach that came to school to talk to me after they had offered. They were definitely excited and wanted me to come up this weekend for my official and I will be doing that. I leave tomorrow and I'm supposed to arrive on campus at five." Carter has been to Ann Arbor before, though it has been admittedly a while since that last visit. Said Carter, "I've been on campus before a couple years ago for a camp. I just want to get a vibe for the players and the coaches and everything." Obviously new to the Michigan family, Carter is only fimailiar with one member of the current recruiting class. Not only will he spend time becoming better acquainted with future teammates, he also plans to spend time trying to lure others into the fold. "I (already) know Chris Rock is committed to them," Carter stated. "I just know that he's a great football player and goes to DeSales High School." "And yeah (laughing), I'm going to be trying to (recruit other kids) too." Carter registered 55 tackles and three interceptions last season, returning two of those for touchdowns (one of 96 yards and the other for 34 yards). On offense he hauled in 25 passes for over 300 yards from his receiver position. Carter also reports a bench of 295-pounds, squat 375 and a 40-inch vertical jump.
